Butterfly farms
DMW.nu actively supports the conservation of butterflies and rainforests in various countries. When you purchase a mounted butterfly from us, you directly contribute to local communities and nature preservation around the world.
The mounted butterflies we offer come from sustainable breeding farms in countries such as Suriname, Peru, Costa Rica, Thailand, Malaysia, Congo, and Indonesia.
The butterflies are raised in protected environments. Local people are given the opportunity to earn income through these breeding farms instead of catching butterflies in the wild. This helps stimulate the local economy in a sustainable way.
The breeding farms often cover several football fields. They not only help maintain butterfly populations but also play an important role in protecting rainforests, plants, flowers, and trees. In these farms, butterflies can live out their full natural life cycle. They are not exposed to predators, have unlimited food, and can reproduce safely.
Most tropical butterflies live for just 1 to 2 weeks. After their natural death, they are carefully dried and preserved. The revenue generated supports the operation and maintenance of the farms.
We have personally visited every butterfly farm we work with, to ensure all butterflies are ethically and responsibly sourced.
Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm
Since November 2012, we have been sponsoring the Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm in Peru. It is the only butterfly farm in Peru and is dedicated to preserving butterfly populations and educating visitors about the rainforest. A portion of the proceeds from every mounted butterfly sold goes directly to support this farm. You can also choose to become a donor. In addition to butterflies, they also rescue and care for other animals in need.
